The 11+ Test

To apply for Year 7 at Boston High School, students must first sit an 11+ entrance test. This test is administered at the start of Year 6 (in September) in collaboration with local primary schools. Your child needs to achieve the minimum required score, which is set and standardised by the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools.

The complete admissions policy for 2026-27 will be released soon.

If you live within our Designated Transport Area (DTA)

The 11+ testing for girls in our DTA is administered by Boston High School, and your child will take the test at their Primary School. Please complete our online 11+ registration form when it becomes available in January 2025 to confirm your child’s participation in the 11+ test.

The Primary Schools in our DTA are:

Boston Pioneers Free School Park Academy
Boston St. Mary’s RC Primary St George’s Prep
Boston West Academy St. Nicholas Primary
Butterwick Primary St. Thomas’ Primary
Carlton Road Academy Staniland Academy
Donington Cowley Endowed Primary Swineshead Primary
Fishtoft Academy Tower Road Academy
Hawthorn Tree School Wrangle Primary
Kirton Primary Wyberton Primary
Old Leake Primary

Our Designated Transport Area (DTA) is defined by Lincolnshire County Council. If you live within the DTA and your child is eligible, living outside of the 'walking distance' prescribed in their transport policy, they will provide transport to Boston High School in line with this policy. You can find full details of the LCC Transport Policy here. Our DTA is shown on the map below - click or tap to zoom in.

If you live outside of our Designated Transport Area (DTA)

There are several local primary schools outside our Designated Transport Area (DTA) where we remain the nearest Grammar School. We collaborate closely with these schools, and the 11+ tests are administered by their staff. This allows your child to take the test at their Primary School, with the papers then sent on to us for processing. These schools are:

Frithville Primary New Leake Primary
Friskney All Saints Primary Sibsey Free Primary
Gosberton Clough and Risegate Community Primary Stickney Primary
Gipsey Bridge Academy Sutterton Fourfields Primary

If your child attends one of the Schools above and you would like them to sit the 11+ test, please complete our online 11+ registration form when it becomes available in January 2025 to confirm your child’s participation in the 11+ test.

If you live outside of our DTA and your child’s Primary School isn’t listed above, your child can take the 11+ test at our School instead. Please fill out our online 11+ registration form when it becomes available in January 2025 to confirm your child’s participation in the 11+ test.

Please note that if you live outside of our DTA, you may need to make your own transport arrangements. You can find full details of the LCC Transport Policy here

11+ Registration

In all cases, you need to register your child with us for the 11+ test. Online 11+ registration opens in January 2025. This page will be updated with key information about the registration process and timeline shortly before then. For an overview of the process for current Year 6 pupils, please refer to this page. However, please note that dates and processes may vary slightly each year.

11+ Results

11+ results are e-mailed to parents in mid October. To be eligible for a place at Boston High School, they must meet the minimum required standardised score on both papers.

Can I Appeal an 11+ Result?

Yes, all applicants have the right to an appeal, and we have detailed information about this process on our appeals information page.

Next Steps: Applying for a place at Boston High School

If your child has achieved the required standardised score in their 11+ and you wish for them to attend Boston High School; the next step is for you to submit a Secondary School application via the Lincolnshire County Council website (link below). Be sure to choose Boston High School as your first preference. Historically, we have always been able to accommodate all girls who achieved the required standardised score in their 11+ test, but please note that our oversubscription criteria is detailed in our admissions policy.

Please watch the presentation below, from our Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Gilton; which explains the 11+ test format.
