Creativity is a basic human need, serving to improve our mood, self-esteem, and
cognitive function. Our aim is to stimulate the minds of our students, enabling them to flourish by identifying their individuality as an artist and a person. We enable and nurture students’ creativity, fostering visual literacy and communication skills.
The team promotes exploration and appreciation of the world in a focussed divergent and objective way. Facilitating students to develop breadth, depth and purpose to their personal creative journeys is key. We support mental well-being, providing a safe environment where students are encouraged to be curious, free to investigate, experiment and love learning.
Our Biology curriculum is designed to cultivate a profound understanding of the natural world, scientific inquiry, and critical thinking. Through engaging lessons, hands-on experiments, and exploration, students will delve into core topics such cells and organisation within organisms; transport systems; health and disease; inheritance and evolution; coordination and control; ecological interactions; photosynthesis; and respiration. We aim to ignite curiosity, inspire problem-solving, and equip students with the tools to comprehend complex physical phenomena.
In addition to mastering fundamental principles, our curriculum fosters practical skills, including data analysis, mathematical modelling, and experimental design. Students will explore the interplay between theory and application, preparing them for further studies in Biology, ecology, or medical- related fields. Moreover, we emphasize scientific literacy, enabling students to evaluate real-world issues from a scientific perspective.
By nurturing analytical minds, promoting collaboration, and encouraging intellectual curiosity, our Biology curriculum empowers students to appreciate the beauty of the natural world and contribute meaningfully to scientific progress.
The Business Studies curriculum aims to engage students in the practical and theoretical aspects of the business world, inspiring them to explore the word around them. Students will learn about the four functional areas: finance, operations, marketing and HRM through group projects developing their key skills in communication, team work, problem solving, use of number, use of ICT, and independence.
Students will be facilitated to develop as reflective and critical thinkers, able to utilise a range of sources to build logical arguments leading to informed judgements. Students will be given the opportunity to learn about business on a local, national and global level and encouraged to develop their understanding and experience of different stakeholders. Students will learn about sustainability and making ethical choices and the impact this has on the product and its saleability.
Our Chemistry curriculum is designed to cultivate a profound understanding of the natural world, scientific inquiry, and critical thinking. Through engaging lessons, hands-on experiments, and exploration, students will delve into core topics such atomic structure, the periodic table and bonding; chemical and energy changes; rates of reactions; organic chemistry, and chemical analysis. We aim to ignite curiosity, inspire problem-solving, and equip students with the tools to comprehend complex physical phenomena.

Students will explore the interplay between theory and application, preparing them for further studies in Chemistry, forensic sciences, or medical-related fields. Computing is integral in all people’s lives. Our vision is to provide A high-quality computing education which equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with Mathematics, Science, and Technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems.
The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of problem solving and computation, how computer systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming and problem solving. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information technology.
English is the gateway to the world. Both Literature and Language studies enable our students to access the world of moral, political and social thought. This challenges all abilities to understand the complexities of today’s society and life whilst embracing elements of all other academic disciplines through to social media communication. Spoken language gives the freedom to express our opinions and enables the connections for interpersonal communication which is a cornerstone of every human community.

Health and Social Care encourages BHS students to acquire skills and knowledge about the sector, to lead to employment or further study. Alongside this it develops independent research and planning skills, important study skills for higher education.
To be accessible to all students, whatever their backgrounds – whether gender, ethnicity, special educational needs, disability. Curriculum to be accessible and adjustments made to ensure that SEN is not a barrier to success in Health and Social Care.
Our prime intention in the History Department at BHS is to foster a love of History and an excitement and curiosity about the past. All our teachers are all passionate about their subject and having knowledge of the people and events that have shaped our lives is something we wish to pass on to all our students.
By using fun facts, gory gossip, cartoon characters and allowing as much freedom as possible for students to explore individual interests we aim to share our love of History.
All of our teaching is aimed at stretching and challenging students to be the best they can. A level History is intended to make students think, evaluate and form opinions – backed by evidence to support them. We begin this process right from Y7.
The Maths curriculum at Boston High School is designed to give all students, irrespective of their entry point in Year 7, the opportunity to make excellent progress from Year 7 to Year 11 and then into Year 12 and 13 if they continue to study A Level Mathematics. Every student deserves a creative and ambitious mathematics curriculum that will prepare them well for everyday life and future employment.
Mathematics encourages BHS students to develop inquiring minds and curiosity about Mathematics, to acquire skills and knowledge, conceptual understanding and to solve problems by applying mathematical strategies.
Our aim in Media is to prepare students for the society we envision for tomorrow. Through the study of a range of products such as television and film, print, gaming, advertising, music and radio we will enable our students to become critical, intelligent consumers of mass media. Pupils are encouraged to develop awareness of how media products attempt to influence and position us through the messages and values they communicate. We want students to take responsibility for their media consumption habits and to understand the effects of their choices.
Within the media course there are frequent opportunities for cross curricular links with aspects of English language, history, politics and psychology and sociology, meaning we engage in a rich and deep curriculum which explores numerous boundaries and interpretations. The subject includes a deliberate focus on broadening students’ media technical language, as well as their consideration of representation, as students are actively encouraged to experiment with the application and use of technical and theoretical terminology throughout their studies. We also aim to empower and inspire students to express themselves through construction of creative, original and thought-provoking media products.
Our aim is to develop a life-long love of language learning in our pupils, to build their cultural awareness and to ensure that every pupil is able to reach his/her full potential. We will achieve this by delivering outstanding languages lessons, which are well-structured, engaging and relevant to learners.
The MFL Department is committed to the teaching of languages at Boston High School in order that our students will be equipped with the skills and ideology needed to live and succeed in a multicultural, European and International society. In an increasingly competitive job market our students will need to earn their place alongside highly skilled workers from abroad who all have English as their second language. We firmly believe that it is no longer acceptable or practical to be monolingual.
The teachers in the MFL department have experienced for themselves the benefits of language learning and foreign travel. We endeavour through our teaching to broaden our students’ horizons and raise their own aspirations for the future. We believe that a greater understanding of other countries and cultures can breed tolerance, empathy, adaptability and consideration for others, as well as a willingness to overcome communication barriers.
Boston High School Music Department aims to provide all students with a high quality and wide range of practical music making experiences in both curricular and extra-curricular activities. Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum requirements for music by providing a broad and balanced syllabus that will ensure progressive development of knowledge, experience and skills through singing, performing, listening, composing and evaluating across a range of different styles, traditions and music genres.
All students are encouraged to get involved in music whatever their ability and there are many opportunities available for everyone. Music at Boston High School is varied and intends to provide children with lifelong skills and experiences, in which they can transfer and apply not only in cross-curriculum subjects but outside of school.
Boston High School PE Department aims is to empower all students to become physically literate by acquiring knowledge and skills that are the foundation for engaging in physical activity for life - as they understand the need for an active and balanced lifestyle as they experience high quality and a wide range of practical PE experiences in both curricular and extra-curricular activities. These activities should guide students in the process of becoming physically active for life, in a safe and fun environment, as they display strong sporting values, whilst accepting themselves as a unique individual, within a sporting context.
Classes are undertaken in an active caring and supportive environment in which every student is challenged to grow in their physical competence. All activities, drills, activities and games are designed to maximise success for individuals and groups.
All students are encouraged to get involved in physical activities regardless of their ability and there are opportunities available for everyone. Extra-curricular opportunities give the student the chance to represent their school and to demonstrate talents they might not necessarily be able to in the classroom. Although some of our teams are often successful, the department’s priority is to be fully inclusive and to give any child the opportunity to play regardless of their ability. In this way, more students can feel part of a team and more children can feel proud of representing the school.

Psychology is the science of mind and behaviour. Our vision is to develop knowledge and understanding of different areas of the subject and how they relate to each other as well as their application to real-life issues. We aim to develop a deep appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of scientific methods as well as a life-long curiosity in what it means to be human.
Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE) aims to promote religious understanding and appreciation of people from all backgrounds.
PRE equips pupils to meet the circumstances of living in modern society, and become good citizens. It promotes a sympathetic understanding of religions, including both those that are locally represented and those which have been formative in the lives of people in the history of the world. Students will be challenged with questions about belief, values, meaning, purpose and truth, enabling them to develop their own attitudes towards philosophical, religious and ethical issues.

Sociology is the study of social relationships and institutions. It is a diverse subject, ranging from crime to religion, from the family to the state, from the divisions of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture, and from social stability to radical change in whole societies. Sociology can help us to make sense of the society we live in and understand the cultural and identity issues which affect us all. Its study involves developing skills including the use of evidence to support our arguments, how to investigate facts, and critical thinking. It is relevant to the society we live in, and we aim to make its study exciting and illuminating to our students, encouraging both their curiosity and social responsibility.
BHS sociology department aims to encourage young people to critically assess the nature of the society in which we live. We aim to evoke curiosity about the world around them and allow them to question those things that we accept as the norm.
Students develop knowledge and understanding about society and how sociologists’ study. The specification helps students understand society's structures, processes, and issues. Sociology is exciting, interesting and relevant to students' lives.
Technology has a wealth of value, not only does it prepare the foundations for student’s potential career choices in such a vast field, Technology is core to life. Technology naturally supports the development of student’s confidence and independence strengthening their wellbeing and resilience as core skills.
Technology is an inspiring and creative subject that allows our generation of tomorrow to design, explore and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts – Technology takes the science and makes it work, Technology takes the maths and applies it, Technology draws on the principals and knowledge of Art, English, Geography, Computing, Business studies and History through investigation and doing.
Pupils take risks, solve problems; becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Our Technology education programme makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation, it has an impact on daily life and the wider world. All achieved through an engaging and dynamic process of curricular and extra-curricular activities involving pupils, teachers, parents, the community and industry. We do this all through theoretical and practical engagement drawing upon a wide range of mediums – CADCAM, Foods, Metals, Papers & Boards, , Polymers, Textiles, Timbers, and Smart Material.
