Introduction

Boston High School is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying relevant accessibility standards in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2.

Despite the partial exemption for schools, we strive to ensure our website conforms to WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards. This means that our website aims to be:

Measures Taken to Improve Accessibility

The website is built on FSE Design’s latest CMS, is fully responsive and built in accordance with the WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards.

To enhance accessibility, our website features:

  • A clear and consistent navigation system.

  • Full support for keyboard-only navigation.

  • Optimised contrast ratios to assist users with visual impairments.

  • Correctly implemented ARIA labels to ensure compatibility with screen readers

  • Adjustable font sizes to improve readability.

  • Well-structured content using appropriate headings and landmarks.

  • A 'Jargon Buster' page to explain acronyms to users outside of school. 

Non-Accessible Content

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility, some content may not yet be fully accessible. This may include:

  • older PDF's may be inaccessible to assistive technologies

  • third party plugins may not be fully accessible

  • video content may not include captions

  • some images may lack alternative text or captions

  • some images may contain textual content that is inaccessible to assistive technologies

We are working to improve these areas of our website to make it accessible for all.
